Bus HOV Tragedy On I-75 In Northwest Atlanta

Yesterday morning, a bus carrying Ohio's Bluffton University baseball team crashed onto the northbound lanes of I-75. Six people, including 4 baseball players, the bus driver, and the bus driver's wife, were killed.

Please click here for the article from Yahoo! News.

Apparently, the bus in question was traveling down I-75 southbound in the HOV lane and the driver had accidentally traveled, at full freeway speed, up the HOV exit ramp at Northside Drive/Howell Mill Road (Exit 252) instead of straight ahead on the HOV toward downtown. As you can see from the image I captured from Google Earth, there is no return HOV ramp to the southbound lanes.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the players and families of the victims of this tragic accident.

That's all for now. Thanks for reading and please come back often.

It's unfortunate that this situation occurred. Signage on Interstates and regular roadways are sometimes inadequate and substandard.

I drove up to Northside Drive (SR 3/US 41) just to see what changes that the GDOT was implementing. From what I could see (as I drove by the roadwork), the larger stop signs are in place, and the median is being worked on.

I think that placing a traffic signal at Northside Drive and the I-75 HOV Southbound Exit Ramp, as well as Northside Drive and the I-75 Soutbound Exit Ramp would move traffic off of those ramps onto Northside Drive quicker than the current situation.
