If this were in a state other than Georgia, all you would see is "US 19 North", but since Georgia is proud of its state route numbers (plus the fact that we refer to this highway as "GA 400"), that's why the big green sign for Dahlonega should read "US 19/GA 400 North". BTW, GA 9, which parallels US 19/GA 400, was US 19/GA 9 until 1981, when GA 400 was completed up to its current end at GA 60 in Lumpkin County.
And now for something completely different (with apologies to "Monty Python's Flying Circus")...
This afternoon, Mary and I went to a car show that our church sponsored. Besides seeing several cool classic cars and trucks, we also ate some really delicious barbecue chicken (the best in Forsyth County IOHO). One of the cars we saw was a 1964 Ford Fairlane 500 owned by Phil Bonner of Dahlonega. Here's a picture of me behind the wheel (thanks to Mr. Bonner for letting me do this)...
NOTE: I "Googled" his name and found some history behind this car. To see for yourself, please click here.
Sitting behind the wheel of this classic car reminded me very much of my dad's own 1964 Fairlane 500. He bought the vehicle in East Point not too log after I was born and it was the very first car I had ever driven, starting with driving lessons on the backroads outside my hometown of Snellville. My dad still has that car, though it had not been driven in years.
That's all for now. Thanks for visiting and please come back again.

Hey, I have been following your site for a while. It seems like the overhead signs never acknowledge US 19 (see GA-400 N before crossing I-285). Even at some entrance ramps onto GA 400, US 19 is not ackowledged. Reply to this
I know on some interstate to surface arterial junctions, the highway number is omitted entirely on the overhead signage: namely I-285 @ Camp Creek Parkway and I-75/I-85 @ University Avenue/Pryor Street (these are just a few that come to mind). Reply to this
