Is Britney Spears in charge of Georgia DOT signage these days?

The Georgia DOT is getting ready to install new overhead gantries on the northbound side of US 19/GA 400 approaching McFarland Parkway. and the new signs read as follows...

EXIT 12 - McFarland Rd/Alpharetta... an "Exit Only" sign for the far right lane that dumps traffic into McFarland Parkway's eastbound side, which is well north of Alpharetta (center dot at intersection of GA 9 and GA 120 according to GDOT's own maps)... looks like yet another "sign goof" and as Britney sang (and I use that term loosely).... Oops, I Did It Again!!!

When I asked my wife, she said perhaps Paris Hilton was in charge of GDOT signage. After all, Paris doesn't care to read.

BTW, I now have a MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/georgiaroadgeek. Please feel free to visit it and thanks in advance for doing so.

Finally, I have some sad news to report as follows...

Hal Rives, the commissioner of the Georgia Department of Transportation from 1987 until 1991, passed away from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. He was 81.

It was during Mr. Rives's tenure that Georgia's developmental highway program, the Governor's Road Improvement Program (GRIP) was implemented. He also was instrumental in getting work started to complete GA 400 from I-285 to I-85, and reached agreements with East Atlanta residents to allow Freedom Parkway (GA 10/GA 42 Conn) to be completed from I-75/85 to Moreland Avenue (US 23/GA 42) and Ponce de Leon Avenue (US 29/78/278/GA 8). The Carter Center sits in the middle of what was a planned interchange between GA 400 and the long-since-defunct Stone Mountain Tollway (GA 410). Please click here for the obituary from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Please keep Mr. Rives's family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.

That's all for now. Thanks for visiting and reading (which is more than Paris would do), and please visit often.

What about McFarland Parkway? Did Forsyth County rename it? It was Road, and that's what it still is on southbound 400 signs.

To answer anonymous' question, yes. It was renamed by Forsyth County, recently (maybe in the past two-to-four months or so). When you exit onto McFarland Parkway proper, you can see the name change.
