ROADGEEK: The Television Series
This afternoon, while driving home from work, the following thought popped up in my mind...
A "reality show" called "ROADGEEK", focused on the road enthusiast culture that has just mushroomed over the past decade due to the Internet.
As the host of the series, I would travel the country... or even the world... featuring the exploits of those people who are die-hard "roadgeeks", following them as they travel the highways and byways.
The things I would like to know are how and why they are fascinated with roads, plus the stories behind the roads that they are traveling on.
For example, one of my long-term goals would be to have personally operated a motor vehicle in or through all 159 Georgia counties (160 if Milton County is resurrected). I would comment on things like the history of the roads and the places the roads go through, the design of the roads, Georgia's love of state route numbers... and the list could go on and on and on.
The show would also feature other roadgeeks and their trips around the country (or the world), as they, too, travel the highways and byways.
I also thought about what network the show could fit on. My first choice would be "The Travel Channel", which features everything from haunted houses to Samantha Brown's travels (I just love Samantha's personality and cuteness. IMHO she's kinda sexy in her own way) to John Ratzenberger's "Made In America". If The Travel Channel didn't do it, then I'd take Discovery, TLC, or A&E (who really seems to be running the "reality show" gamut with "Dog The Bounty Hunter" and KISS's Gene Simmons' "Family Jewels").
Would you watch such a show... or what other things would you, the roadgeek, want to see in it? Thanks in advance for sharing.
More "Roadgeek Jukebox" SongsThis afternoon Atlanta's "97.1 - The River" had a good "roadgeek music appetizer" going for about 10 minutes with 2 songs in a row that are definitely "roadgeek jukebox" material...
"Up Around The Bend" by Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR)
"Life In The Fast Lane" by The Eagles (featuring Don Henley on lead vocals and fellow ham operator Joe Walsh's butt-kickin slide guitar solo). My only regret is that I wasn't in a cool butt-kickin muscle car just haulin my *** on a open stretch of Interstate.
"Ask The Georgia Road Geek"
For a future blog and/or podcast, I would like to hear from you with any questions you have about Georgia's roads or my various and sundry travels around the state.
Please send such questions to me at
webmaster at georgiaroadgeek dot com, and as soon as I get at least 4 or 5 questions, I'll post and/or record accordingly. As a token of my appreciation, I'll even send you an official magnet if you include your postal address.
That's it for now. Thanks for reading and visiting and I look forward to your questions and feedback.
