On US 19/GA 400 outside I-285, the Georgia DOT has the ramp meter lights and signs installed and ready to go, but they have not turned them on yet.

According to GDOT's website, these particular lights were to be activated in early August, but it's now the Labor Day weekend and the lights are still inactive. According to an article from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution published about a month ago, GDOT explained that the delay in activating the new GA 400 meters was due to the new school year just beginning in North Fulton County. Well, the year is fairly well underway, so what's the excuse now?

GDOT is also installing ramp meters along the top-end of I-285 between I-75 and I-85, and those are to be completed at the end of February, 2008, and activated soon afterward in early March, again according to the GDOT website.

On a happier note, Mary is putting together a photo album of our Great Florida Roadtrip of 2007 and needs the computer back to finish it up. We want to get it done in time to take it on our trip to Gwinnett to visit my family.

We wish you all a happy and safe Labor Day weekend, thank you for reading, and please come back again.

Ramp meters are great when you are on the freeway mainline and can be a pain when you are taking the on-ramp. With that stated, overall I have to say that they are not a bad idea in areas where merging traffic causes slowing.

They (GDOT) have begun to install some (ramp meters) on the southwest Perimeter. I saw some of the ramp meters at Camp Creek Parkway/SR 6 and I-285 South, and Washington Road and I-285 South. I was shocked to see them installed so quickly.
