For the last year or so, as I traveled on the "top end" of I-285, I had noticed this new bridge being built over the freeway just east of the Fulton/DeKalb County line.
Well, after reading an
article this week on the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's website and doing a "google" of my own, I've found out that it is part of the Perimeter Center Parkway extension to Lake Hearn Drive. You can see it (highlighted in pink) on the following map from the
Perimeter Transportation Coalition (PTC) website...

Last time I passed by, I noticed that the bridge is getting fancy streetlighting and a somewhat "retro" look on its concrete sidings, which harkens back to older concrete and steel bridges that were built in the early-to-mid 20th Century.
The PTC has a sketch of how the bridge will look upon completion.

This reminds me of a recent conversation I had with David, a fellow ham, on the
Atlanta Radio Club's 146.82 MHz repeater about bridges. He asked me why I was attracted to some (i.e. The Sunshine Skyway) but not others (i.e. the "flyover" ramps at "Spaghetti Junction"). Simple... I like bridges that seem to have a "personality" about them, as opposed to those that are simply "utilitarian" in look. The new Perimeter Center Parkway bridge, IMHO, fits into the former category, and I will be very interested in checking it out once it gets completed.
That's it for now. Thanks always for reading and please come back often.
