At last weekend's roadmeet, I learned some new terms from fellow road enthusiasts Doug Kerr and Adam Prince of
Gribble Nation.
Like me, both these gentlemen are into "clinching counties". Between the 2 of them, they have hundreds of America's various and sundry counties "clinched". In the words of Wayne and Garth... "We're not worthy! We're not worthy!"

You probably are wondering by now, "What are The Breakfast Counties?". According to Doug, they are...
Bacon and Coffee!!! Homer Simpson would love these counties, I bet.

Bacon County, whose county seat is Alma, is located north of Waycross. US 1/23/GA 4 (
GRIP Corridor EDS-545) is the major north-south corridor through Bacon.
From Alma, travel west on GA 32 (
another GRIP corridor) to reach Bacon's next-door neighbor, Coffee County, and its seat, Douglas. US 221/GA 135 and US 441/GA 31 (
GRIP Corridor EDS-441) are Coffee's 2 major north-south arterials.
50 miles (80 km) west of Douglas, GA 32 meets I-75. This stretch between I-75 and Douglas will be the first section widened. IIRC, Douglas is the home to a Wal-Mart distribution center, thus I can see why this section of GRIP corridor has been given priority by GDOT.
From Adam, I learned that I had been "froggieing" counties. "Froggieing" a county means that one travels into, and then out of, a county so that they can say they've "clinched" it.
Over the last 2 years, I "froggied" the following counties...
ALABAMA: Jackson
GEORGIA: Brooks, Gilmer, Madison, and Oglethorpe.
TENNESSEE: Sequatchie
And finally, I have some sad news that I had learned this week via the misc.transport.road (MTR) newsgroup...
Last July, fellow Georgia road enthusiast Stanley Cline (a.k.a. "Roamer1") passed away.
I had never met Stanley in person, but he once posted a comment on my blogsite regarding my blog about Johns Creek and Milton not being mentioned on GA 400 exits.
I also enjoyed seeing his site on roads and the history of the Atlanta metro calling zone and how it became the world's largest over time. Regretfully, his website, roamer1.org, has been shut down since his death.
Here is the obituary from the Chattanooga-area newspapers...
LAKEVIEW -- William Stanley Cline Jr., 31, of Lakeview/Fort Oglethorpe,
passed away in Sandy Springs, Ga., Tuesday, July 17, 2007.
Stanley had lived in the North Georgia area for most of his life
and was of the Baptist faith. He currently was employed with Level
Three Communications as a computer networking technician.
He was probably best known for his academic achievements, and
graduated from Lakeview High School in 1991 at the age of 15.
Survivors include his parents, Stanley and Deidre Cline, of Fort
Oglethorpe.
Services will be private.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday,
July 21, 2007, at 534 Cone Drive, Fort Oglethorpe.
Arrangements are by W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, Fort
Oglethorpe, obituary line, 861-1060.
Please keep Stanley's family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
A special thanks to MTR regular Larry Harvilla for letting the roadgeek community know of this loss.
Stanley, thank you for your contributions to the roadgeek community and may you rest in His eternal peace.
That's it for now. Thanks for reading and please visit often.
