Roadgeek Birthday CakeLast weekend, Mary and I went to see my family in Gwinnett County and we celebrated my birthday.
Actually, my birthday was just last Monday (2/18), but the weekend was the only time we could all get together.
I received some really nice presents from everybody (mostly gift cards), but the best thing was what my 4-year-old niece, Stella, picked out for me...
a roadgeek birthday cake!!!

I bet that when my sister (Stella's mom) told the bakery folks that this was for a 44-year-old, they may have been ROTFL... but hey, it's my birthday, gosh-darn-it, and I like roads, so NYAH!!!

In appreciation for Stella's excellent choice of birthday cake for her Uncle Steve, I let her keep the vehicles, barracades, and helicopter. Stella, thanks for picking out the really cool birthday cake. (Hmmm... perhaps I can make a roadgeek out of Stella.)
More Roadgeek DVDs
Being a roadgeek and a fan of
The History Channel, I recently purchased three (3) episodes of "
Modern Marvels" on DVD. Those were as follows...
Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel
The Mackinac Bridge
Overseas Highway (featuring fellow road enthusiast Robert V. Droz of
U.S. Highways).
Since these 3 episodes were among my favorites, I just had to add them to my "roadgeek DVD" collection along with Smokey and The Bandit and The Cannonball Run.
Each of the above videos cost $24.95 apiece and are only avaliable from
shophistorychannel.com. Please note, however, that the 3 DVDs in question are DVD-R formatted, which will not play in older DVD players, but will play in PCs with DVD-ROMs and newer DVD players. I found that out when I tried to play it in a DVD player I bought back in 2000 or 2001. Fortunately, we bought a new Samsung DVD/VCR not too long ago and they can play DVD-Rs.
That's it for now, and I'm going back into the den to enjoy my new DVDs. Thanks for reading and please come back again.
P.S. To Kevin Inscoe: Thanks for the birthday wishes via
Facebook.
