Roadgeek Tourism

A couple of days ago, The History Channel had a new
Modern Marvels episode on Superhighways, which I TiVo'd and just finished watching tonight.
Part of the episode featured the "Dallas High 5" interchange, located at I-635 and US 75 in the northern part of Dallas, Texas. Interestingly enough, the interchange has become a tourist attraction in and of itself... and as a roadgeek, I'd love to go to Dallas and see it.

After watching the episode, I got to thinking about the potential of "roadgeek tourism" and what I'd feature if I were a "roadgeek tourguide". Here are some road-related sights in Georgia that I'd like to feature...
- The I-85/I-285 interchange in Northeast Atlanta (a.k.a. "Spaghetti Junction")
- The new I-85/GA 316 interchange (a.k.a. "Wayne Shackelford Interchange")
- The Eugene Talmadge Bridge in Savannah
- The Sidney Lanier Bridge in BrunswickThe first 2 were stops during the
Atlanta Winter 2008 Roadmeet, Jeff Kitsko of
Pennsylvania Highways has been instrumental in creating a roadmeet called "The National", and over the past 10 years, roadmeets have been organized and executed throughout the U.S. and Canada. Pete Jenior and
Gribble Nation have dedicated a webpage to them and you can see them for yourself by
clicking here.
What road-related sights would you feature in your area? Please let me know by either posting a comment to this blog or e-mailing

This is my final blog for the weekend, and I thank you yet again for reading and hope you will visit often.
