Last week, Mary and I were in Roswell at their annual Magnolia Storytelling Festival, so I was unable to post my usual weekly blog.

Here at GRG HQ, we've just been chillin' out and doing as little as possible... and that's the way I like to celebrate a holiday sometimes.

We hope that you will continue to enjoy this 4th of July weekend and contemplate the "freedom of the road" that we, as Americans, have enjoyed for years and years. Gas prices have been putting somewhat of a damper on travel plans, but nonetheless, I am thankful for the many thousands of miles of highways and byways that America has.

Speaking of fuel, I just finished watching a "Dirty Jobs" episode from 2005, where Mike Rowe visits a guy in Washington State who makes his own "biodiesel" fuel for about 55 cents per gallon.

<BEGIN TIRADE>
Considering that oil is now trading around $145 per barrel, and how people all over the world are being virtually "robbed" at the gas pump, it makes me wonder again as to why this country doesn't do more than pay "lip service" to alternative fuels research. As an American, I believe we owe it to ourselves to invest more into making alternative fuels that are not only good for the environment, but most of all affordable to both individuals and businesses. After all, the higher fuel prices go, the more we pay for goods (which have to be shipped), and the less we can travel and take in this great land we are blessed with here. If we can't travel due to higher fuel prices, regardless of what type of vehicles we own, then the tourism industry suffers, which means more people who are out of work. In other words, we don't just get hurt at the pump.
<END TIRADE>

That's it for now. Thanks for reading and please come back again.
