In my sorta-continuing series of "roadgeek tunes classics" I find on YouTube, here's a gem from 1975, "Chevy Van", recorded in Atlanta by Sammy Johns and featured in a 1977 cheesy movie called "The Van".
Here's the trailer for "The Van"...
I've never actually seen the movie... and I doubt that I ever will.
As for Mr. Johns, he later went on to become a successful songwriter in Nashville. Waylon Jennings , John Conlee, and Conway Twitty were among those artists who had hits with his songs "America", "Common Man", and "Desperado Love", respectively. In 1996, Sammy Kershaw recorded "Chevy Van", which you can find on his album "Politics, Religion, and Her".
Several years ago, I e-mailed Mr. Johns with questions regarding the song and he confirmed for me that he, indeed, did record "Chevy Van" in Atlanta.
Finally, I confess to being sort of a "music geek" as well as a "roadgeek", so be forewarned regarding any more totally useless trivia I may share with you.
That's it for now. Thanks for watching and hope y'all enjoy it!
