Folks, I've been looking forward to this trip for quite a while and now, I'm in the process of making final preparations for my weekend roadtrip to my early childhood home of Knoxville, Tennessee.
The cameras and camcorders have been checked and the supplies (SD cards, batteries, mini-DVDs, etc.) are ready to go for filming video for both "ROADGEEK-CAM!!!" and for a possible roadmeet documentary.
My official East Coast Hive Mind (ECHM) t-shirt is here and it is ready to go.
Tomorrow morning, I'll be taking my truck to the shop for an oil change and tire rotation/balance, and then, its back to GRG HQ to load up the truck and then I'll be hitting the road soon afterward.
Here are my roadgeek goals...
- Clinch I-140, I-275, and I-640. - Get more miles of I-75 driven (at least to Exit 108).
Since I lived in Knoxville from 1969 through 1972, I also will try to stop by my old elementary school, Fort Sanders, and our old place at Westgate Terrace, which BTW had a good view of I-40/75 from the edge of the complex. If I make it to these places, I'll be snapping photos for the family and will post them to a future post-trip blog.
On Saturday, I'll be joining Billy Riddle and the crew (about a dozen of us according to my last e-mail from Billy) for lunch at the Quaker Steak and Lube just off I-75 at Exit 108 (just north of the I-640 interchange), and after lunch, we will be treated to an official tour of Tennessee's SmartFix40 project courtesy of the Tennessee DOT.
The "roadgeek iPod" is now up to 70 tunes, and this afternoon, I added the following tunes to it..
"Highway 40 Blues" and "Road To Spencer" - Ricky Skaggs "Living In America" - James Brown "Running On Empty" - Jackson Browne
For all you "Full Metal Jacket" and "Family Guy" fans out there, I've even got "Surfin' Bird" by the Trashmen on the "roadgeek iPod". Bird-bird-bird, the bird's the word... everybody knows that's the bird's the word...
Thanks in advance to Billy for all his pre-meet work and I know that we will all have a wonderful meet as a result.
If you'll be there, then I look forward to seeing and meeting you.
That's all for now. Thanks for reading and please come back again.
