Folks, Day 3, the final day of "Nashville Roadtrip 2009", is over, and boy was one heckuva fun trip!!!

This afternoon around noontime, fellow roadgeeks and Nashville-area residents Seth Dunn and Billy Riddle met up with me at the Loveless Cafe for some lunch and the Loveless's own Carol Fay's world-famous biscuits. I got to meet Ms. Fay, telling her that I'd seen her on The Travel Channel and that IMHO, the biscuits and the rest of the food were as good as I had expected. Ms. Fay was extremely gracious and I encourage everyone to go to the Loveless for not only the biscuits, but the food overall.

After leaving the Loveless, Seth and Billy joined me as we went on a "whirlwind" trip down part of the Natchez Trace Parkway (NTP) to see the gorgeous Double Arch Bridge that take the NTP over TN SPR 96. On our way back up the parkway to TN SPR 100, Billy operated the "ROADGEEK-CAM!!!" and we got some awesome video footage of the northernmost part of the Parkway.

After visiting the NTP, I drove westbound on TN SPR 100 to the westernmost stub of TN SPR 840, where Billy shot another great piece of "ROADGEEK-CAM!!!" footage and I "clinched" Hickman  and Dickson Counties in the process.

As the footage was being shot, I decided to go westbound on I-40 from 840 to Exit 172 (TN SPR 46) and then turn around to head back toward Nashville. On the way, I "clinched" Cheatham County, and kept going thorugh Nashville until we reached Exit 232 (TN SPR 100). This resulted in "clinching" Wilson County.

From Exit 232, we traveled most of TN SPR 109 from its end at TN SSR 265 all the way up to Portland.

Just north of Gallatin, TDOT is in the process of building a new 4-lane highway to replace part of 109's existing route north of Gallatin.

From Portland, I turned onto TN SPR 52 westbound and headed to I-65, where I went northbound into Kentucky, stopping at the Kentucky Welcome Center to pick up a map, and then at Exit 2 (US 31W) to get some gas before heading back to Nashville. As a result, I "clinched" my first Kentucky county (Simpson County).

Heading back into Nashville along I-65 southbound resulted in my having driven the entire section from Exit 71 in Willamson County to the Kentucky state line. Heck, I even got 2 miles of I-65 in Kentucky for that matter.

Overall, not only did I meet all the "roadgeek goals" I set before leaving GRG HQ, I was able to exceed them. Here is today's summary...

- Driven I-40 from Exit 172 in Dickson County to Exit 232 in Wilson County.
- Drive I-65 from Nashville to the Kentucky state line.. and a couple of miles of I-65 in Kentucky.
- Driven the Natchez Trace Parkway between TN SPR 96 and its northernmost end at TN SPR 100.
- "Clinched" Hickman, Dickson, and Cheatham Counties in Tennessee, plus Simpson County, Kentucky.
- More "ROADGEEK-CAM!!!" footage.

A special thanks to Seth and Billy for being such great "roadgeeking" companions today, filming "ROADGEEK-CAM!!!" footage, and for showing me some road-related sites in the process. In fact, if it was not for Billy, I wouldn't've known about the Double Arch Bridge.

Tomorrow morning, Mary and I will be returning to GRG HQ, and next time we head to Nashville, Mary and I will be taking in more of the "non-roadgeek" sites since Mary was in a conference all this weekend. On Monday, I return to my "real job".

That's it for now. Thanks again to Seth and Billy, thanks to y'all for reading, and please visit often.
