According to the Augusta Chronicle, Georgia's newest flyover ramps will be opening soon.

In Augusta-Richmond County, the Georgia DOT has had most of I-20 torn up for both road widening and interchange reconstruction.

The cloverleaf interchange where I-20, I-520 (Bobby Jones Expressway), and GA 232 all meet will have 2 of its ramps replaced with the following new "flyovers"...

- I-520 westbound to I-20 westbound. Coming from I-520 westbound, you will encounter the new "feeder ramp" at the Wheeler Road interchange (current I-520 Exit 1C). This ramp will be for all traffic going from I-520 to I-20.

- I-20 westbound to I-520 eastbound. The new exit ramp will begin at a new "feeder ramp" near Walton Way Extension and will be for all traffic for both I-520 eastbound and GA 232 westbound.

While I welcome the new ramps that will radically affect the way traffic flows to and from I-20 and I-520, I hope that the remaining I-20  interchange work between I-520/GA 232 and the South Carolina line will progress soon to a point where traffic entering I-20 will not have to stop and make a surface street-like turn. Coming out of the Georgia Welcome Center back onto I-20 westbound was quite annoying, not to mention potentially dangerous.

Roadgeek-wise, I am really looking forward to the day that South Carolina DOT finally completes its section of I-520 (Palmetto Parkway). Once it is done, I can not only "clinch" I-520 in Georgia (giving me a "100% Interstate Clinch" in my beloved home state), but also another Interstate to fully "clinch" in South Carolina. To do all that in one drive would just be totally awesome for me.

That's it for now. Thanks for reading and please come back often.
