Twenty years ago on US 78/GA 10 (Stone Mountain Highway/West Main Street) between East Park Place Boulevard and GA 124 (Scenic Hwy) in Gwinnett County, the Georgia DOT (GDOT) installed a reversible lane system that was the longest stretch of such lanes in the Southeast... but finally, they'll be fully dismantled as of Monday. Please click here to read the AJC article.
Since September, 2007, GDOT has been converting this particular stretch of road to a 6-lane (3 lanes in each direction) divided highway with a concrete median. While actual widening work has yet to be completed (target date November 30th), I am so happy to hear that these infamous lanes will finally be relegated to Atlanta's road history. Thank you, Lord!!!
REMINDER: Next Saturday at 9 PM Eastern Daylight Time on "GRG On BTR", my guest will be author and fellow road enthusiast Dan McNichol. I hope you will tune in live to listen or otherwise download the podcast after the show ends.
That's it for now. Thanks for reading and please come back often.
