Vampires Flash Georgia Motorists

On August 22nd, vampires were spotted on the Rumble Road overpass over I-75 (Exit 181) near Macon... and they were "flashing" motorists. Frankly, I wish I was there to see it for myself, considering that these vampires were young and kinda hot.

And now, for something completely different (with apologies to Monty Python)...

According to Toll Roads News, Georgia's State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA) has received five (5) bids for a new tolling system for the I-85 High-Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes in DeKalb and Gwinnett Counties, and one of the bidders is TransCore, the current vendor whose Cruise Cards are used on the existing GA 400 tollway.

The current Cruise Cards are TransCore's eGo series of stickers that uses a proprietary technology. The SRTA bid, however, asks for an "open standard" technology-based electronic toll collection system, and the bid winner is to be announced on Wednesday.

Depending on who receives the bid for the new "PeachPass" system, I would hope that those of us who currently have Cruise Cards would still be able to use them instead of having to purchase new "PeachPass" stickers. Furthermore, since Georgia is looking for a so-called "open standard system", I would hope that they would look into entering compatibility agreements with other states' tolling systems, starting with Florida's Turnpike Enterprise (who BTW apparently already has TransCore eGo stickers for their SunPass system). Right now, we have both the Cruise Card stickers and the SunPass transponder, since we go to Florida at least once or twice a year. If Georgia and Florida could reach an agreement to honor each others' stickers, then I could ditch the SunPass transponder.

That's it for now. Thanks for reading and please come back often.
