Could I-516 Be Extended?

This morning in the Savannah Morning News, there was an article about a possible I-516 extension into Hunter Army Airfield as part of a study named Project DeRenne.

Please click here to read the article.

Currently, I-516's southeastern end is at an at-grade intersection with Montgomery Street. On the other side, it continues on as GA 21/DeRenne Avenue.

Having "clinched" I-516 last spring, I saw no effective warning (IMHO) that the limited-access highway is about to end. What little warning that there was consisted of the "signal ahead" and "REDUCE SPEED" sign with flashing amber lights placed mere yards away from its end. (Please click here for a photo from the AARoads Interstate Guide I-516 webpage.)

Regardless of whatever its future may hold, I would like to see the Georgia DOT place some type of "END ACCESS CONTROL" warning at least at the one-mile and half-mile points, along with flashing amber lights, so that motorists who may be otherwise unfamiliar with the highway can be effectively warned.

I'm sitting here blogging from a local coffee shop near GRG HQ and just got a call from my mechanic saying that my truck was ready, so I've got to go for now. Before I do, though, I want to acknowledge the victims of the senseless "shooting sprees" that occurred at Fort Hood, Texas, and in Orlando, Florida, Mary and I are keeping them and their families in our thoughts and prayers and we ask y'all to please do so as well.

That's it for now. Thanks for reading, never take your family, friends, or your own life for granted, and please come back again.

I feel you on that. S.R. 166/Langford Parkway ends kind of unceremoniously at I-285 and just east of I-75/85, with only "END ACCESS CONTROL" signage. I think "END FREEWAY" might fit better, due to the more common usage/understanding of the word "freeway."
