Georgia Gas Station Could Become A National Monument

A gas station located 40 miles north of Albany may become a national monument... at least if both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate pass the necessary legislation and the President signs it into law.
In addition to adding Billy's station to the JCNHS, the bill also proposes that Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter's former residence (a.k.a. "The Haunted House") be added, plus taking over the Georgia Welcome Center on US 280/GA 27 from the State of Georgia.
Furthermore, the bill proposes that JCNHS be renamed "Jimmy Carter National Historic Park".
During Jimmy Carter's campaign for the Presidency in 1976, his younger brother, Billy (1937-1988), who was a colorful character is his own right, operated a local service station that became a sort of "unofficial press headquarters" and a somewhat real-life version of a stereotypical Southern establishment like "Wally's Service Station" on "The Andy Griffith Show"... but not quite as quaint.
Regardless of whether or not Billy's station becomes a national monument, I'd still like to visit it when we make our trip to see Plains and nearby Andersonville. Heck, no one could ever invent a fictional Southern character that would be anything near the legendary status of the late Billy Carter.
Anyway, I just thought I'd share this tidbit of news with y'all before I call it a night. Thanks for reading and please visit often.
