For the longest time, the City of Woodstock, Georgia, has wanted a third interchange on I-575... and it is on its way to becoming a reality.
Just north of the Towne Lake Parkway exit (I-575 Exit 8), the new interchange will be for Ridgewalk Parkway. (GDOT Project CSNHS-0006-00(043), P.I. #0006043). Please click here for the GDOT concept report.
Here's a map of the location as captured from Google Earth....
Georgia DOT awarded the US$17,000,000 contract to C.W. Matthews Company, who bid at least US$5,000,000 lower than GDOT expected. Construction is to begin soon and should be completed by December, 2012.
Interestingly enough, the major beneficiary of this new I-575 interchange would be Cousins Properties, who is looking to develop a new shopping center within this general vicinity. In terms of potential impact to I-575 rush hour traffic in this growing Metro Atlanta "bedroom community", I'll let you be the judge.
That's it for now. Thanks for reading and please come back often.
