This afternoon, with my new HD-capable camera, I shot some footage of GA 400.
Traffic was pretty heavy with folks headed north toward the mountains, but it moved at fairly steady pace... until I got just past the ramp for Exit 17 (GA 306/Gainesville).
Just 1/2 mile (800 m) from this interchange, the freeway portion of GA 400 ends at an at-grade intersection with GA 369. At that point, depending on the volume of traffic, you can expect delays due to the traffic light at 369.
Although the original intent of GA 400's planners was to make it a full-blown freeway at least as far north as GA 53, Georgia DOT decided during the 1970s and 1980s to build the remainder as a divided highway with at-grade intersections.
With the growth along the Forsyth and Dawson County portions of 400 (in part due to the North Georgia Premium Outlets mall at 400 and Dawson Forest Road/Old GA 318), there came more traffic. With more traffic at various intersections came more traffic lights, thus defeating the purpose of having a brand new stretch of highway to replace the old US 19 and GA 9E highways. In the meantime, the State of Georgia spends more and more money to put "band-aids" on the road, and GA 400 sucks more and more every day!!!
And now, I present to you my latest episode of "ROADGEEK-CAM!!!"...
That's it for now. Thanks for reading and watching and may you and yours have a happy and safe 4th of July holiday.

I drive GA400 every day to get to work on the west side of Atlanta. I have to leave at a freakish 6:30 in the morning to be at work an hour early. If I don't, I'm stuck in traffic for an hour and a half. You're right, it sucks. Driving home is even worse. The ramp to 400 is often congested (even in the summer!) with THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC trying to jockey for position to get onto 400. Hopefully the new interchange will alleviate some of that, but then I have to deal with the bottleneck at Exit 12. Forsyth County was and possibly still is one of the fastest growing counties in the country. When are they going to get rid of the bottleneck there? It takes 15 minutes to go 2 miles! Drives me CRAZY! Reply to this

For this particular video, I used an Olympus SP600UZ and a small tripod secured to the dashboard. Thanks for asking! Reply to this
