Hopefully, the US 411 Connector will be built right. It's supposed to be a full freeway, just below modern Interstate standards, from I-75 to the U.S. 41/411 interchange.

Comment on Driving The Sugarloaf Parkway Extension

Yes, it is.

Comment on Driving The Sugarloaf Parkway Extension

Good blogpost, Steve.

I dislike the signage installed on the Sugarloaf Parkway freeway spur, as well as that on Ronald Reagan Parkway; the signage is very substandard. If you're going to build a freeway, give it signage that is according to the type of road it is; not signage that you would see on a regular thoroughfare.

It's going to be nice to see Sugarloaf Parkway when it's extended to University Parkway.

Also, I think the freeway speed limit will be bumped from 45 to 55 when the freeway's completed a bit further.

Comment on Driving The Sugarloaf Parkway Extension

Is that a SPUI (single point urban interchange) atop the New Hope bridge, like the one at 400 and Buckhead Loop?

Comment on Karen Handel Hates The US 411 Connector

I don't want it built if they're not going to do it right. The I-75 interchange should be banned for its poor design and poor handling of traffic. No excuses...it will never be fixed right if it is built that way. This needs to be 100% limited access so that the criminals in this state can't pack it with malls and houses. That's the only reason they're building it this way IMO.

Comment on Karen Handel Hates The US 411 Connector

I agree with you, Steve: Karen Handel doesn't understand the needs of the people in Rome and Cartersville. This freeway needs to get built very soon. The current set-up isn't a good one. There are far too many twists and turns. I've driven this route before and have almost taken the wrong turn.

Comment on Dalton - It's More Than Just Carpets

I've eaten at that Chick-Fil-A.

Good points re funding. High school coaches, to their players, are important - no denying it. But it seems like a stretch to justify a BGS (paid out of the pockets of bumpkins like my wife and me, dented from six furlough days each!). That's why God invented something called "billboards" -- or, perhaps, a privately-funded sign square for the blue services signs one sees ahead of exits; "ATTRACTIONS" is a legit category....

[/rant]

Oh well, so long as Mary was happy with the carpet, your trip was not in vain. ;-)

Comment on Radical Redesign For 2 I-85 Gwinnett Exits?

Interstate 590 is gained a DDI at the Winton Road diamond interchange with work starting next March. I think the concept is a good one, as it eliminates left-hand turn movements, which in turn reduces the number of signal cycles.

Comment on Transportation Sales Tax Bill Introduced

Yeah, I agree, Steve. Waiting two more years is going to put Metro Atlanta in a deeper traffic quagmire. We need to get money to rehab and fix our road network.

Comment on Radical Redesign For 2 I-85 Gwinnett Exits?

I think that it's an interesting and forward-thinking concept, which would be better in the long run, in my honest opinion, than the traditional protected/permissive left turn. I'd also like to see more roundabouts, multi-lane ones at that. Anything that keeps traffic moving is fine by me.
